My Worlds 2.0

My Worlds

I used to love this album. It had a purity about it, it was innocent, it came from a source that was not tainted by anything, it was all love songs and as a poet, I loved all the poetry about girls and love. I understood and connected with Justin all the way. He was born in 94 and I was born in 95, a big selling point. I remember I had a friend, Nkosana Thusi, who loved his music. He had the “Somebody to love” remix with Usher on his phone as an mp3 when it came out – no one had that, that was the video version, everyone had the original version, the remix was highly sought after. The gents back then weren’t open to consuming some Justin Bieber content, everyone was closeted but he had no problem blasting “Baby” featuring Ludacris for all to hear. I would never listen to Justin Bieber out in the open like that! Wouldn’t want the girls in school to think I was “soft” and “sensitive”. Oh hell no, street cred and reputation is everything! Kanye West “POWER” was my jam and just hip-hop in general. Nkosana was comfortable with himself, he enjoyed Bieber’s music, he would play it every time, in the open, didn’t care who was watching or what his peers would think of him. No one had a problem really, it was all in my head, I learned not to project weakness. Singing soprano or just straining your voice as a gent is definitely weakness – put some bass in it! The girls in class loved Justin Bieber and they all gravited towards him. Him listening to Justin Bieber was genius! I always think of Nkosana Thusi when I hear a song off the album, we called him “Big Show”, the gentle giant who loved “One time”, “Somebody to Love”, “Baby” and “U Smile”. RIP Nkosana “Big Show” Thusi.

Big Show got me into Justin Bieber, I liked that Bieber confidence and swag but I still didn’t show it publicly. Publicly was always Kanye West “POWER” but I got all the Bieber singles from him. I ended up purchasing the album and I fell in love with it – double disk, unskippable, just press play. I loved “Favorite girl”, “Up”, “That should be me”, “Overboard” and “Eenie Meenie” with Sean Kingston – Sean Kingston was Dope! I downloaded the album again last week because all my CDs are lost in Limpopo; what can I say, I was chasing dreams, I am rueful, I lost a lot of my CDs, my collection of music that I was accumulating over the years. That Justin Bieber My Worlds album still gives me the same feelings, same emotions, it’s still great, still pure, still a classic, I understand why I loved it so much. This is the only Justin Bieber album I’ve ever listened to, that I bought, that I can endorse, before the tattoos, before the press, before the fame, before the smokescreens and facades. It’s like a time capsule, time sure flys. I am happy Nkosana was in my life.

Day 3 at the Joburg Theatre to watch the Whitney Houston tribute show. Whitney Houston is Sharon Spiegel-Wagner’s favorite artist of all time. Sharon is also born in August. Happy Birthday great man, long live antakalipa, live long!

Sam and Stew have watched this four times and they don’t rule out a fifth. Best birthday ever, I can’t conceive of anything better. I never saw Whitney, however she taught me the greatest love of all. I have made up my mind, Belinda Davids is my favorite performer of all time. Belinda Davids is Whitney Houston maybe even better, sacrilegious, I know, I don’t know what to say after watching something like that. She is truly amazing!

After the show, I followed Belinda on all her socials because I want her to stay with me forever. So in love with Belinda Davids, that voice, the technique. She is so beautiful. She is perfect. I’ve never experienced anything like that, couldn’t stop singing and clapping. The audience didn’t want the show to stop, Belinda escaped. The greatest tribute show of all time, Showtime Australia the culprits.

It was an absolutely great show, some might say the greatest tribute show of all time. Yes, she sings Whitney songs but that’s Belinda Davids! Maybe even better, sacrilegious, but she’s transcended. Belinda Davids is so amazing. Perfection. She sings for the love and not because of fame or a fleeting experience. She is simply technical excellence.

Full house, the audience enthused and excited. Some of the songs performed are: Saving all my love for you, Greatest love of all, I have nothing, I will always love you, One moment in time, My love is your love, I am every woman, So emotional, I wanna dance with somebody and other timeless classics.

This has been the best birthday of my life. Thank you to God for the 30 years. SamSays on the credits. Whitney Houston is Sharon Spiegel-Wagner’s favorite artist of all time. Sharon is also born in August.

Congratulations Showtime Australia and the whole team for a great show and a deserved standing ovation.

Live Your Life – Play

Live your life – Play

I am convinced that God is a comedian. Life was never meant to be serious. We humans complicate the process. We desire, we envy and postpone the present for an hypothetical future. We suffer more in imagination than reality. We love the illusion of control, we insist on micromanagement, we hold tight and firm to our preconceived notions, we want things to happen our way. God laughs because much of what happens is spontaneous. No one knows anything real about life. Even the term “real” attempts to make sense of what just is, an impossibility, that’s like biting your own teeth. Life is obsurd, no one has the answers, if someone had a cheat code then the game wouldn’t be worth playing anymore. How can you take serious what dissappears right before your eyes. I once had a girl who professed feelings of love towards me. I asked her are you serious or are you playing with me? She said she was serious and I was disappointed because I wanted her to play with me. Who wants a serious girlfriend? She be clinging on to me, suffocating my space, preserving me out of insecurity and controlling my perception of reality. Nah babygirl relax, calm down, it’s not my responsibility to make you happy, you must do that for yourself and then we will be happy together. I am not your world, get the fuck outta here! I am amazed with the mind games that people play on a daily, the sly manipulations and gaslighting to get you to do their bidding for them. Don’t get me wrong, I know that people control and manipulate me everyday, some tactics I see like the marketing and advertising that’s prevalent around me, some manipulations are paternal, they have been happening ever since I was born, some manipulations are to control frames to make sense of our interactions in the world cause somebody has to be passive and compliant to have a successful interaction, two alpha wannabes interacting won’t get you far. I love when women attempt to manipulate, the crocodile tears and the victim mentality, I always laugh, oh you a good actress but overt manipulations don’t work on me. Life is funny, it’s play. It’s not a coincidence that people who are successful in life do what they love, it’s not work for them, it’s play, they get to do what they love everyday and there is a glow about them, they are shining stars, they are fulfilled, they are happy. It’s play, they dance for the sake of dancing. The musicians, they play music. To play with no end game in mind, that’s the purpose of life. There’s a contrast in people who work and not play in their professions, they can’t wait for the day to be over, they are absent-minded, they postpone their happiness, they live in the future, their present sucks. You see it with all the serious professions like defence, your soldiers, crippled by PTSD and living life with paranoia. The need to be serious all the time, they are not happy. Why would you want to be serious all the time? That’s not life. It’s so unfortunate because the present is all we ever have, to deny it, is to deny your life.

Life is play, everyday is an opportunity to do what you want, to engage in what you love, to be around people who enhance the quality of your life. There’s wisdom in “YOLO” which translates to you only life once. You have to take play seriously! That’s why we get together with the gents, buy 48 Corona, 2 bottles of Hennessey, smoke Chronic to set the mood and the whole day is on autopilot. We play, we have fun, we connect, we live in the moment that’s now. It’s counterproductive to be with people who don’t share your values, people who you don’t see eye to eye with, the playing experience won’t be optimal. It’s a waste of life. Why would you want to be with someone you don’t want to play with. The rules of play are governed by two simple rules, respect and reciprocity, it’s give and take, give pleasure to receive pleasure. Simple cause and effect, that’s how you know it’s truthful. Albert Camus once said the real question of life is to whether to commit suicide or not. Why would you want to play if the activity doesn’t give you pleasure? 9 to 5 working a job you hate for a boss who treats you like crap and doesn’t like you. The pay is horrible and you can’t even recognize yourself in the mirror anymore. Isn’t it wise to end the game? The location is already pre-determined, death. No one can escape it, everyday you move closer to it, it calls out your name and the sound rebounds like an echo until time. We take life way too seriously when it’s already determined, a formality. Why? What for? You won’t survive it, even if you live longer, you won’t survive it. Life is play, every day is play, you are the Universe experiencing itself, you are not separate from it, you are it like everything around you, you are just a different expression, live your life, you choose how to live it, play, be happy, don’t be too serious, life is not serious. Play, be in the process. Love the process. Do the things that you love and be with the people you love. Play, be like a child in the moment, be immersed in the present, block out the external world, people’s thoughts about you, they don’t matter, they never have, the only thing that matters is what you think about yourself, play, find flow, laugh, be silly, feel the wet grass from under your feet, run, explore, be yourself, find the expression that’s truest for you, embrace your individuality, play, be all that you can be.

Illest motherfuckers alive

Illest motherfuckers alive

A friend of mine was celebrating the success of a business project he was working on. It’s all about profit and he had plenty. Naturally I was happy for him and I bought chronic so we can celebrate. I went to his house at about 11am the next day. He was with his girlfriend, they were just chilling watching a movie. I gave him the weed because he rolls better joints. He rolled a great joint and the three of us smoked. The munchies hit so we went to go buy food. Her girlfriend stayed behind. We got 3 large pizzas, snacks and something to drink. Then we headed to the liquor store. He asked what we were drinking and I replied “Bombay Sapphire” but he wanted “Hennessey”, so we bought them both. We got back to his place and his girlfriend was now with one of her friends. The friend was hot. Her complexion was in between, she had natural hair and a slim figure. I was encouraged, luckily I got R100 weed. It was a lot of weed. I didn’t know what was her plans but I didn’t want her to leave. I mean this way the numbers added up, 2 for 2, it was perfect. So I suggested we play some music, to create a mood, a vibe and so we did. I gave the ladies the task of playing the music because I wanted to be accomodative to the friend. We had Bombay, Hennessey, Chronic and Pizza. They played hip-hop music. Another joint was rolled and we smoked before we ate Pizza. It was a good Tuesday afternoon. When they were done playing their music they suggested somebody else play. It was a chilled afternoon and everyone was taking it easy with some Bombay and Hennessey. I choose an album that could reflect that luxury ambiance, “Watch the Throne” by Jay -Z & Kanye West. It was a good choice, a classic and everyone in the room was familiar with it. We drank and made memories, everyone was happy. Then the music stopped playing after the 12th song “Why I Love You”. We all knew what the problem was. The album was still playing and it was on it’s 13th song “Illest motherfuckers alive” – the song is silent for the first 3 minutes of the song, after the 3 minutes, it’s audible again and the album resumes. My friend asked for my phone to fast forward to the part were everything comes alive again. I responded “No, wait for them, be patient. They are Billionaires. They can do whatever they like”. The hot friend was amused with my response and she backed me up. So we sat in silence for 3 minutes waiting for Jay -Z & Kanye West; it was worth it.
