My advice for start-ups.

My first point is “no handshake, no business”. Draft something on paper. Don’t be naive, words don’t mean anything, human beings are not coherent creatures, they are full of deception, they will lie if it serves their best interests. Create a third entity, contribute terms and shake on it. Without this, the partnership is doomed from the start.

Second, don’t work for/with/under someone you do not admire and respect. You won’t give your best under those circumstances and you won’t grow. Don’t settle! Collaborate with the best people you can find. Keep in mind that if your partner lies to you once, it will happen again and again. They don’t respect you enough to think you warrant the truth. Be careful, they might make deals that lead to your downfall. Work with someone with integrity. Know who you are working with.

Third, prioritize serving people and work to perfect that model. When you have perfected that, concentrate on scaling and serving large quantities at a time. Really want to help and care enough. Understand your customers and meet all their needs. Making money is secondary, your service/product should be impactful and satisfy the customer.

Forth, love what you do. As an entrepreneur you are going to experience hellish days that will make you want to quit. Being an entrepreneur is not easy. There is a lot of suffering. There is no escaping failure. You are going to fail, make peace with that. Failure is not the problem, it is how you react that will dictate success. You will probably change business models multiple times as you go along. Keep learning, have enthusiasm, adapt and adopt, be positive, innovate and keep going. Never stop.

Fifth, concentrate on you and your enterprise instead of the competition. Focus on growth and retaining your current customers. Delight your customers.

And lucky number 6, elevate your perspective, see your business way into the future. Think 10 years or even 100 years if you are that ambitious. Have clear and concise goals and plan thoroughly.

Commitment

How can we define the word commit? I would say to give entirely to a specific person, situation or cause. The key word here is entirely. It must be wholesome and dedicated, it must come deep from the substructure of your being. It must be natural. It cannot be forced or imposed.

To give, give without expecting anything in return. You cannot commit with a heavy heart. A heavy heart is troubled and has a lot to go through. It won’t commit, it has excuses and the end results are often disappointing. Someone is committed to something because they are enthused and forsee great results, the payoff has to be appetizing enough. It must be valuable and meaningful. Commitment is something personal and subjective. It comes from within. It is serious, it is existential. How committed am I is a translation of how serious am I about life. Am I moving with the herd or am I doing the things that I want? Am I resentful of life? Am I doing everything that I can?

Life is difficult and we don’t have superpowers that can dissipate all our worries away. That’s why we need to track what we value. Write it on paper, track it, make goals, attach milestones, achieve them, win! If you do that enough times, you will become unstoppable. Start small and proceed to bigger objectives. Having it on paper will motivate you and you won’t quit when the dark times flood because you made a commitment to yourself – you can’t quit, you have no right to quit! It’s a binding contract between you and the Universe, God or whatever you believe in. To commit is to never go back on your word. It is to focus, it is having your eyes on the prize.

Will things into existence

We will things into existence.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but we never stop executing!
Take multiple shots at it,
have faith that it will work and it will.
There can be no other way.

We will things into existence,
everyday is play for us.
We have imagination,
unquenchable spirit,
the eyes of a child.

We try out different combinations,
undeterred by failure.
Motivated by the truth that’s in our souls.

We will things into existence,
we are blinded by biases,
our faith makes us bend reality
like an optical illusion.

We will things into existence,
we don’t stop,
it’s our mode of being,
an expression of life,
a statement of authenticity.

We are foolish,
we are crazy,
we are rebels,
we are different.

We will things into existence.
We have enthusiasm for life.

It inspires us.
We love it!

We laugh,
we share,
we plant,
we busk,
we dare,
we dream,
we soar.

If you want to be something,
be it!
Anything you want in the world is yours.

Change is the only constant

Change is the only constant
that’s why we are spiritually rooted to the pulse that beats all of life,
existence,
atoms in their simplest forms,
a part of milky-lanes,
among billion cosmoses.

Everything has to change,
life is seasonal,
it’s adaptation,
metamorphosis of existence.

What worked in the past
never lasts,
even with controlled variables,
nothing in this world is truly 100%.

Let’s all just be professional,
no clinging,
one amazing night was all that was due to you!

Stop being selfish,
let other people have a go,
or pay up,
that’s the only way to get results.

Change is the only constant,
I lied to get you into bed,
I deceived you,
I played to your insecurities,
I don’t want you,
get out of my sight.

Change is the only constant,
we don’t share the same destination,
the journey on the road was great,
thank you,
here’s my turn.

Don’t be bitter, no!
I don’t just serve you.
